We all know that Johann Sebastian Bach is one of the more popular composers, and several piano students learn some of his piano songs as part of their repertoire.

However, researchers feel that some of the famous works that are attributed to Bach were actually not composed by the great composer himself but by his second wife.

Here are some more instances.

According to research conducted by Schulze and listed in the Peters Edition of the Notebook, the keyboard pieces were composed by J.S. Bach himself, Couperin, Hasse, Böhm, his sons J. C. Bach and C.P.E. Bach, and Petzold, while some nine pieces are anonymous.

The familiar “Minuet in G” (BWV Anh. II. 114) and its partner piece, “Minuet in G minor” (BWV Anh. II. 115) were traditionally believed to have been composed by J. S. Bach. However, recent research, particularly on the part of Hans-Joachim Schulze, points to the German composer and organist Christian Petzold (1677-1733).

Recent speculation suggests that Anna Magdalena Bach (1701-1760) may have been the composer of several pieces attributed to her husband. Johann Sebastian wrote a number of compositions dedicated to her, most notably the two Notenbüchlein für Anna Magdalena Bach. She regularly helped him transcribe his music.

Though there is no sure way to really prove this right or wrong, there is no doubt whatsoever that Bach clearly had a strong influence on most contemporary musicians; there are many students who are big fan of Bach.

The findings however have been described as “highly important” by Bach scholars and will be published in a doctorate, later this year. Bach scholar Professor Martin Jarvis suggests – on the basis of having used police forensic science techniques – that famous works attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach were not penned by the great composer himself, but by his second wife.

You can read more in this article in The Telegraph (on April 22, 2006).

You can also follow more discussions on various J.S. Bach-related subjects at the Bach-Cantatas website: www.bach-cantatas.com

Story – The Piano Movie

The movies is set in the the mid-nineteenth century in a rainy, muddy & marshy New Zealand forest. Ada, and her young daughter Flora, are sent to NewZealand for an arranged marriage. Once they land in New Zealand, they find that the living conditions are harsh there.

Ada suffers more grief when her husband Stewart decides to leave her piano behind since he does not have enough people to carry all their belongings further from the shore.

Baines, who is a local guy takes the piano and gets it perfectly tuned after that long journey. Ada, who desperately wants her piano back, goes to Baines to try to convince him to return the Piano.

But Baines asks Ada to earn back her piano by giving him piano lessons. He says that during the lessons, he would simply like to listen to her playing the piano… with other conditions. Ada agrees to it, though reluctantly.

Soon, Ada and Baines start geting closer to each other and their relationship is transformed. Stewart, who is Ada’s husband, finds out about their relationship… and in a fit of rage chops off the index finger of Ada with an axe. He tells her that if she does not forget Baines, he will chop her remaining fingers as well.

But, by then Ada and Baines had already started liking each other. Stewart realises this and lets Ada go with Baines… Towards the end, it is shown that Ada’s missing finger is replaced with a silver digit made by Baines.

Final Thoughts

The Piano is definitely one of the better movies I have ever seen; it has been appreciated by both critics as well as audiences everywhere!

Please note that this movie is suitable only for Adult Viewing!

Everybody loves the sound of the accordion and is played in various countries through-out the world.

If you are fond of this instrument and are looking to buy one, here is what you need to know about accordions.

Types of Accordions

Although there are different variations of accordions, here are the more common ones – piano accordion and the diatonic button accordion.

A piano accordion is an accordion which has piano like keys, similar to the one on a piano or organ but with fewer, smaller and lighter keys.

So which one is better? Well, both have their positive aspects.

A piano accordion’s layout is simple and if you have played on the keyboards before, you will find it very easy to use.

The negatives of a piano accordion being that it has a smaller range, and requires more finger movement to play notes that are far apart.

Accordions nowadays are digital in nature. Some of the models from Roland will let you instantly switch between classic accordions and orchestral instruments. Besides, you will also find built-in chorus, reverb, rotary, and effects.

Playing the Accordion

Depending on the type of the accordion, the right hand will play either a piano keyboard or a chromatic (button) keyboard. You use these to play the treble notes.

The left hand is used to play the bass notes and preset chords. The left hand is also used to change switches, and to operate the air button.
