Piano Minor Chords - Flatten the Third Note!


Piano Minor Chords - Another basic chord, containing 3 notes, is the Minor chord. Like the Major chord, even a Minor chord derives its name from the bottom note (AKA Root Note).

Construction of a Piano Minor Chord
You already know how to construct a Major chord! To construct a Minor chord, just take any Major chord and flatten its third note. You can even figure out the notes using the semitone method as below.

Distance between the Root Note and the 2nd Note – 3 Semitones
Distance between the 2nd Note and the 3rd Note – 4 Semitones
Another way is to take the Minor Scale and take the first, third and the fifth notes of that scale to form the Minor Chord.

So if we take the C Minor scale, the C Minor chord would be C Eb G using the above two methods.

Piano Minor Chords – List all the 12 minor chords
CHORD –> Root + Third Note (flattened) + Fifth Note
Fingers that can be used are 1 3 5 for Right Hand, and 5 3 1 for Left Hand.

C Minor -> C + Eb + G
D Minor -> D + F + A
E Minor -> E + G + B
F Minor -> F + Ab + C
G Minor -> G + Bb + D
A Minor -> A + C + E
B Minor -> B + D + F#
C# Minor -> C# + E + G#
F# Minor -> F# + A + C#
Eb Minor -> Eb + Gb + Bb
Ab Minor -> Ab + Cb + Eb
Bb Minor -> Bb + Db + F
