Suzuki Method
An Overview
The Suzuki method was developed by Shinichi Suzuki, a Japanese violinist and teacher!
Dr. Suzuki believed that if children learnt music the way they learn their
mother-tongue, every child would do far better and achieve a high level of musicality.
The basic principle involved is to
watch, listen and imitate what is being played. This is the reason you will find children as young as three taking up music using the Suzuki method.

Suzuki Method for Piano
Basic Principles
Parental participation is of immense importance in this method, just because the kids start very young and this technique relies on their natural ability to learn things. Some key points of this method include:
Don’t push: parents should not get angry, they are supposed to be supportive
Learning everyday: need to practice daily, listen to music daily
Play by ear: learning by ear precedes note-reading
Repertoire: students regularly keep playing whatever music has been learnt
Performance: students perform regularly to gain confidence in their abilities
